広島・長崎原爆を知る7冊に阿部菜穂子さんの最新作
長崎に原爆が投下されてから80年の８月９日、英タイムズ紙は「ヒロシマ、ナガサキ原爆に関する必読書7冊」を特集した。その中で阿部菜穂子著『アウシュヴィッツの聖人を追いかけて』（岩波書店）の英語版‘The Martyr and the Red Kimono’が紹介された。
以下は、阿部菜穂子さんがFacebookにアップしたThe Times紙と、日英両国語による記事である。
My book, ‘The Martyr and the Red Kimono’, was featured in The Times as one of seven must-read books about the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Other books on the list included John Hersey’s Hiroshima from 1946, Kazuo Ishiguro’s A Pale View of Hills (1982) and Takashi Nagai’s The Bells of Nagasaki (1949). My book was the only one written this century. The Times wrote that ‘Abe’s understated style serves her well in recounting the appalling details of the Nagasaki bombing’s aftermath.’
拙著「アウシュヴィッツの聖人を追いかけて」の英語版 ‘The Martyr and the Red Kimono’ が、英タイムズ紙の「ヒロシマ、ナガサキ原爆に関する必読書7冊」の1冊として紹介されました。
他の6冊は、1946年に書かれたジョン・ハーシーの名著「ヒロシマ」、カズオ・イシグロ著「遠い山並みの光」(1982年)、永井隆著「長崎の鐘」(1949年)、井伏鱒二著「黒い雨」(1965年)、原民喜著「夏の花」（1947年）、中沢啓治画の漫画「はだしのゲン」（1982年）。
タイムズ紙は「阿部氏の控えめな文体は、長崎原爆投下後の恐ろしい詳細を適切に表している」と記しています。
